Comillas is an architectural masterpiece in itself. One of the town’s must-see attractions is the astounding Sobrellano Palace. Over time, the palacehas attracted visitors from all parts of the globe. The magnificent structure is a mixture of classical gothic patterns with just the right touch of modernism. This great ensemble was meticulously designed by the Juan Martorell in 1878. The idea of this religious abode is greatly inspired with models of great churches of Central Europe and England. With its inauguration in the year 1881, the town of Comillas transformed into a spectacle of elegance. Today, this wonderful sight of contemporary architecture and historical memoirs is an added attraction to the town of Comillas. The Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid (Pontifical Comillas University of Madrid) is one of the most popular universities in Spain, having a population of approximately 10,000 students. The university was founded by Pope Lei XIII in the 1890’s, primarily as an educational center for potential priest and religious clergymen. At present, the university provides catholic and academic teachings catering to different races, such as Europeans, Latin Americans, Asians and Northern Americans, among others.
