Lupa - Very famous supermarket chain

This supermarket is currently expanding its branches and extending their hours to suit the growing customer needs. One of the most popular stores in Cantabria, they also make their own bread and confectionery, including gateaux, cakes and croissants.
Loaves of bread are being delivered straight out of the oven every morning along with quality food at good prices. A Lupa card enables holders to avail of thousands of discounts.
Mercado de la Esperanza - Oldest market with a modernist feel.

This popular, busy market built in 1897 and carefully restored in 1977, became the oldest surviving market in Santander after the oldest--- the Mercado del Este, built in 1839, was recently demolished.
Cited as a fine example of functional, late nineteenth century architecture, the Mercado de la Esperanza is one place to experience the local atmosphere as one watches fishmongers on the ground floor, fruit and vegetable vendors going about their business.
Behind the building, in the Plaza de la Esperanza, a daily open-air market sells clothing, fruit and flowers. Open hours are from 8am - 2pm and 5 - 7:30pm Mon - Fri; 8am - 2pm Sat.

This meat shop located at the Hospital Santa Clotilde can be easily filled up so visitors are advised to come early though the waiting is made pleasant by the cheerful assistants and friendly service.
The shop is like a meeting place where women gather round and talk about the latest gossip as they select from a wide variety of meats. Chorizo is also sold from nearby Castile and Leon, and they also have their own eggs. Open hours are from 9am - 2pm and 5 - 8pm Mon - Fri; 9am - 2pm Sat.
