Parque de Mataleñas - A valued spot in Cabo Menor

Located high on a long promontory and surrounded by cliffs between Mataleñas beach and the beaches of El Sardinero, Parque de Mataleñas is one of Santander's largest and loveliest municipal parks.

The park is teeming with woodland and meadow areas. Its elevated position enables one to gain an expansive view of the city. For sports enthusiasts there’s a public golf course which opened in 1986 and an athletics track. However, those who want to relax may want to visit the zoo with its kangaroos, deer and lake. It is open from 9am-9pm daily.

Catz - For surfers and other sports enthusiasts

This sportswear shop specializes in surfing, winter and summers sports equipment. It also sells sportswear and accessories like swimsuits and flip flops offering brands like Banan Moon, Town and Country, Macao, and Gordon and Smith. Open hours are from 9:30am - 1pm and 5 - 8pm Mon - Fri; 9:30am - 1pm Sat.

With branches all over Spain, one finds every material needed for a week’s worth of mountain adventures like tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags, boots and clothes, all sporty and stylish. Whether it’s a simple shirt or combat trousers that zip open and turn to shorts, these clothes and other equipment are sold at reasonable prices.

There are also girls’ apparel sold like culottes, shirts, T-shirts and woolen socks. Open from 9am - 1:30pm and 4:30 -8:30pm Mon - Fri; 9am - 1:30pm Sat.

This well-equipped sports center has gym facilities, classrooms, a dining room, changing rooms, library and video room and even a boat storage area for members. Built in 1989 and sponsored by the City Council in partnership with the Sports Council and the Royal Spanish Nautical Society it looks like a large, warehouse or wharf except that most of its exterior walls are made of glass.

The center aims to teach and promote sailing, racing, windsurfing and cruise navigation. Open hours are from 8am-3pm Mon - Fri.

This sailing school located on Isla de la Torre (an island in the Bay of Santander) dates back to the 1930s when it was built to house the Sociedad de Caza y Pesca (Society for Hunting and Fishing). The center offers a sizable fleet of boats and offers classes to companies and schools lasting a week during the summer and autumn. Offers full or half board and lodging.

Weekend courses are also available on Saturday and Sunday mornings for a month between February and June and from September to November. Open hours are from 9am - 6pm Mon - Fri.

Club Náutico La Horadada - Water sports in El Sardinero

This sailing club located right on Magdalena Beach in the Bay of Santander takes its name from Horadada island which in turn lies opposite the beach. Legend states the ship that carried the heads of executed martyrs, Celedonio and Emeterio (patron saints of the city), ran aground there in the third century A.D.

The club offers a wide range of facilities and activities, from sailing, surfing, windsurfing, paragliding and diving to other sports, such as climbing. Outings to local attractions like Magdalena Palace and trips round the bay are organized upon request.

The establishment has hostel-like accommodation with rooms able to contain six to eight beds apiece. Maximum capacity is at 60 guests and open hours are from 10am - 1pm and 4 - 6pm daily.

This small gym offers various equipment such as modern weight machines for a large variety of activities, from aerobics, step, spinning and fitness training. Supervisors and spotters are around all day to help out with any queries you might have.

Rates are all inclusive, even the sauna, and for an additional fee, one can also enjoy the solarium. Come and have fun getting fit. Open hours are from 8am - 10:30pm Mon - Fri; 9am - 1:30pm Sat.

Forum - Huge shop, almost everything

This shop found in the Valle Real shopping center offers the latest top name brands for sports buffs who can still bargain for goods ending on the items. The shop also sponsors a few local sports teams and various sporting events. It’s open from 10am-8pm Mon-Sat.
