More spectacular buildings, plus the beaches of Santander (from Palacio de Festivales to Cabo Mayor)
You should never miss the beautiful beaches of this wonderful town. You can start at Dique de Gamazo (Gamazo Jetty), east of the city center. From there you can visit one of the most spectacular buildings in Santander, the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria, a cultural center. Appended to the side is the Escuela Superior de la Marina Civil, where the Planetarium is located. Nearby you'll also find the Centro de Alto Rendimiento de Vela (Sailing School). If you continue down Calle Gamazo, you'll soon reach the Maritime Museum.
One of the most beautiful boardwalks in all of Spain is Avenida Reina Victoria. Left of it is the class and exclusive residential district of Santander, with famous buildings, such as Casa Pardo or Hotel Real. To your right, you ll see fabulous views of the bay and the city's many beaches like the quiet and sheltered Peligros, La Magdalena and the lovely Playa de Bikinis. On the other side of the bay you can make out the towns of Pedreña, Somo and the huge beach known as Puntal. You can enjoy this entire stretch little by little, to fully take pleasure in the beautiful land and seascapes. Finally, you'll get to Magdalena Peninsula, where you can visit their park, and the Royal Palace.
Heading towards El Sardinero district, you'll see Camello and La Concha beaches from your right. The heart of this district is Plaza de Italia, where you can visit and enjoy the Gran Casino (luxury and games here!) and some of the city's best hotels and upscale residential areas.
A little further east, near Plaza de Cañadío, there is a group of streets where most of the nightlife is concentrated; in the summertime, El Sardinero has an active nightlife. Streets such as General Mola, Hernán Cortés, Daoíz, Velarde, Peña Herbosa, Santa Lucía and Sol, as well as the surrounding ones, are full of bars and cafés where you can stop for a drink or some tapas, or maybe even boogie, until the wee hours.
Next stop is at Piquío Gardens and Sardinero's two beaches, Primera and Segunda (yes, it literally means first and second beaches). Playa de Primera is said to be the most famous beach of Santander. You can relax and enjoy these beaches as you reenergize yourself. Afterwards, you can head north towards Cabo Menor (Smaller Cape) to visit Mataleñas Park and two nearby beaches: Molinucos, a small and tranquil beach, and Mataleñas, a beautiful cove surrounded by spectacular cliffs.

| If you continue along Avenida del Faro, you'll reach Parque de Cabo Mayor (Greater Cape Park). You will marvel at the 19th-century lighthouse and breathtaking views of the cliffs overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.
